IC Microsystems Sdn Bhd organizes Silvaco TCAD Workshop

IC Microsystems Sdn Bhd (ICmic), the sole distributor for Silvaco TCAD tools for Malaysia, Middle East and Pakistan region, has successfully organized a 3-day Silvaco TCAD workshop from 15th to 17th February 2006, held at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Pulau Pinang, Malaysia.
About 28 participants from local universities and companies participated the program. The participants included design engineers, university professor and lecturers from a number of Multinational Corporations (MNCs) and local institutions.
Some of the institutions and MNCs represented in the Workshop were Universiti Teknologi MARA Pulau Pinang (UiTM Pulau Pinang), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Teknologi MARA Shah Alam (UiTM Shah Alam), Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Avago Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd and Intel Penang.
During the 3-day workshop participants were introduced to various tools offered by Silvaco to simulate NMOS process, BJT process and device characterization. Among the tools used were Silvaco ATHENA Process Simulation Software and Silvaco ATLAS Device Simulation Software. Silvaco TCAD Tools are widely used in semiconductor industry and academic institutions around the world to develop and optimize semiconductor processes and also to simulate the electrical, optical and thermal behavior of semiconductor devices.
Mr. Abd Rashid Munir, CEO of ICmic summarized the objective of the Workshop in his opening statement. He said “ICmic will continue to support the educational institutions as part of our corporate policy called 'Bringing Advanced Microelectronic Techology to Universities'. We have many different programs for universities like Workshops, Career Talks, Product Sponsorship and Internship programs to help bring up the educational standard of microelectronics education in the universities.“
