ABOUT US

HISTORY

ICmic was founded by Abd Rashid Munir in 2001 with focus on IC Design – the highest ‘value-added’ activity in semiconductor industry. Since inception, ICmic invested heavily in R&D, establishing its own technology and IPs to ‘create’ advance semiconductor and systems products.
The first IC product was launched in 2002, a world class Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) IC. More ICs were developed and designed after that. In 2006, ICmic secured contracts from Malaysia’s leading telecommunication company to supply Single Line Telephone (SLT). The SLT was designed using ICmic’s Single-Chip Phone IC as the core component. This was the first phone in Malaysia that uses a home-grown IC. At the end of the contracts, ICmic supplied over a million unit of that SLT.
At international level, in 2009, ICmic secured and successfully implemented the Consultancy and IC Design Contract from a Middle East Research Institution to develop IC products for their applications in a technology transfer exercise. The company also involved in skill-sets enhancement activity. From 2010 to 2015, ICmic group successfully conducted Guided Industrial Training Program in IC Design - a dedicated internship program to enhance competency and skill set in IC design. This program was awarded by the Government of Malaysia.
Over the years, ICmic received several awards and recognitions. The most notable ones were “Malaysian Most Innovative SME Company 2010” and “SME Innocert Award 2010”, awarded by Government of Malaysia’s SME Agency. The company also received “Usahawan Terbaik TM 2010 – Kreativiti & Inovasi” and “Innovation Excellence Award 2012” from Telekom Malaysia Berhad.

Going Forward

Over the years, ICmic had successfully developed technologies that created several high value project-based businesses. These technologies prepare ICmic to expand the capability of systems design for various ICs’ demo-kits into several system products.

The current focus is on Agriculture Technology (“Agritech”). Going forward, ICmic is positioning itself to become the leader in this segment and in fact, has successfully released the Electronic Systems Products in Agritech, particularly for Smart Precision Farming (SPF). Similar with IC Design activity, the System Design technologies developed are owned by ICmic.

This achievement is the result from experiences and track records in the development of various Integrated Circuit, Semiconductor Process and Electronics Applications. At the same time, ICmic invested heavily in R&D creating its own Technology and Intellectual Property (IP) in the areas the company participate. ICmic is probably, the only company in Malaysia with system design capability in SPF with patent for ultra-low power design circuit in a Data Converter Design, IP for Soil-Moisture Sensor, and Smart Agri Systems Design.

The significant differentiations of having SPF system for fertigation-based crops compared to normal practices include higher yield, lower operational costs, higher intensity, and repeatability of the activities.

To achieve those objectives, ICmic has so far developed the following technologies:

  1. The Soil Moisture Sensor – a capacitive plate and the interface electronics.
  2. The Internet-Of-Things (IoT) for fast and accurate control of water & liquid fertilizer.
  3. The Auto-Seedlings for accurate high-volume seedlings.
  4. The Auto-Fertilizer-Mixer for accurate, fast, and less labour requirement.
  5. Various methodologies of specialized fertigation techniques.

The plan going forward is supported by ICmic technological achievements thus far that are made possible due to the followings:

  • Ultra-Low-Power CMOS design capability
  • Solar Cell Thin-Film Technology
  • Mixed Signals ICs i.e., Digital-Analog-Converter & Analog Digital-Converter
  • Radio Frequency [RF] ICs
  • Single Chip Phone ICs
  • Telecommunication product e.g., Single Line Telephone.
  • Electronics systems’ design, diagnosis, maintenance & repair
  • IC level design in digital, analog and mixed signals
  • Utilization of Instrumentations, Probe, Measurement and Testing
  • PCB level design with multilayers, diagnosis, and repair
  • Interface board design
  • Software and Firmware Development
  • IT & Network.
